15 “‘In those days and at that time
I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
16 In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it[a] will be called:

Reading/Prayer
Dear God,
Our lives are in you, Lord.
Our strength is in you, Lord
Our hope is in you Lord.
It’s in you, it’s in you.
Oh God, we need to be rescued from despair.
We need to be saved from the cycle of hope followed by disappointment
God in these perilous times we have often felt like the people of ancient Israel, exiles from our own lives. Everything, eating, drinking, sleeping, waking, life, death, our going out and coming in seems like a dream.
The familiar is unfamiliar.
Our brains are scrambled, confused, and suffer amnesia of other times, and ways of being previous to this.
There is no normal new or old!
God, help us to sing a song in a strange land.
Rescue us from hope deferred, that makes our hearts sick.
God of all comfort, rock us in your bosom, draw us into the shelter under the shadow of your wings.
Welcome us to the mercy seat, into your throne of grace, where we can receive mercy in our time of need.
God of all creation, God and Lord of your people, we, your people strangers and aliens, sojourners on earth, ask you to help us to find us in our wilderness, in our exile.
Show us what is most close to us, what is in us, and has been from ancient times, antiquity, indeed from the beginning.
Help us find our authentic selves made in your image.
Restore us to our true selves
God, we need a Savior.
Recreate, make of us a new species; transcended by grief and loss, exiled from the familiar, God, call us back to resting safely in you, our true home, our eternal city of peace, the new Jerusalem. Amen!
