Client Testimonials

Pastors Jen and Ashton were incredible guides, teachers and resources for my husband and I as we prepared for our recent wedding. They helped us lay down foundations together, kept the work rooted in scripture, made it fun and taught us somatic and neuroscience-based techniques to help us navigate tough spots. They set homework that truly helped us hear, understand and set a joint vision and values for our marriage that we’re unique to the marriage God has blessed us with (and nobody else’s!). We started with 12 weeks but added an extra 2 because the work was so valuable to us. We also asked them to preach at our wedding,  because we felt that strongly that our community would be strengthened by their ministry during our service. When Pastors Jen and Ashton show up to teach us how they have been married for four decades, they come on assignment from God, and it shows. We have grown in faith, in teamship and as individuals over the course of the past three months with them. We’re lucky to have them in our community and feel equipped to enter this new chapter in covenant as husband and wife. Thank you Pastors Cumberbatch, and thank you Father God for the anointing you have placed upon them.
Warmly,…

I have known Pastor Jennifer Cumberbatch for about two decades as a respected and dynamic female voice among Christian leaders locally and nationally. It wasn’t until recent months, however, that I got to know her at a deeper and more personal level. I needed comfort and spiritual advice. I was in the throes of complicated grief dealing with my son’s complex PTSD after his cherished older brother ended his life. Four years into our journey, I sought PJen as my third therapist. The right fit finally landed. Pastor Jen faithfully opens and ends each session with prayer, and often adds a simple functional neurological exercise for a more focused conversation. She’s outta the box with cutting edge research as she uncompromisingly adheres to sound Biblical wisdom. Pastor Jen’s love, integrity, and expertise as a vessel of God for healing is an uncommon treasure.

My family and I are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to receive pastoral counseling and advisory services from Pastor Jennifer Cumberbatch. From the moment we stepped into her peaceful healing space, I knew I was in the right place. Our life had been feeling overwhelming, burdened by numerous challenges, and we were seeking guidance and support to find our way back to a place of peace and clarity. Pastor Cumberbatch has provided just that and more.

The pastoral counseling received by Pastor Cumberbatch has been very compassionate and she genuinely cares about her clients. She took the time to listen attentively to our concerns, allowing us to express ourselves freely without judgment. Her approach was holistic, considering not only the psychological aspects but also the spiritual dimension of our life. This unique blend of pastoral care and counseling provided a depth of understanding that we hadn't experienced in other counseling settings.

Through thoughtful reflection and open dialogue, the counselor helped us gain insight into our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She gently guided us through the process of identifying patterns and triggers, empowering us to make positive changes in our life.

Pastor Jennifer Cumberbatch not only provided counseling but also practical advice on how to cope with challenges and maintain emotional well-being in our day-to-day life. The tools and coping strategies she shared have been invaluable in navigating difficult moments. Today, we are more resilient, self-aware, and spiritually connected individuals, all thanks to the exceptional guidance and care we received from Pastor Cumberbatch.

Thank you, Pastor Cumberbatch, for being a beacon of light on our journey to self-discovery and healing.

Your guidance enabled me to develop a better understanding of myself, build resilience, and gradually regain control of my life.

EDUCATION AND PASTORAL ORDINATION

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio and a graduate of Brown University since 1979, Cumberbatch has resided in Austin, Texas.  Cumberbatch was ordained into Christian Pastoral ministry by the late Marvin Doolittle, DTh, of Agape Word of Faith, where, she and her husband Ashton were senior pastors of Agape Word of Faith for 2 years.  The Cumberbatchs were members of a pastoral council at Banah Full Community Church in South Austin with co-pastors Don and Valerie Davis for 5 years. Banah resulted from a merger between Agape Word of Faith and Sure Foundation.  Jennifer, her husband, Ashton, and their children joined Agape Christian Ministries in 2004. She has held her ordination as associate pastor at Agape Christian Ministries under Bishop L. A. Wilkerson for the last 16 years.

Jennifer completed her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the venerable Seminary of the Southwest in 2018, and in 2020 founded Full Measure, which is a ministry of Biblical teaching, preaching, pastoral advisory and care based on Ephesians 4:13.

“Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.”

Ministry to the Austin Community

Her ministry to the Austin community has included: a tenure on the board of directors for Foundation for the Homeless, River City Youth Foundation, Caritas of Austin, Austin Bridge Builders Alliance, tenures as president of parent-teacher associations at three Austin schools, the African American Arts Company: Pro Arts Collective, and the African American Girls and Women Conferences.

ARTISTIC ENDEAVORS

Jennifer’s life-long love of the arts has accompanied her journey of faith. Faith and the arts are inextricably intertwined to express her deep faith and call to pastoral care. Jennifer was a principal member of Spirit Reign, a Christian arts incubator for 3 years.  In addition to writing the script for her one-woman show, R3: Real Life, Real Women, Stories, Jen c0-wrote many of the lyrics and composed some of the music that accompanied her performance with her life-long friend Donna Dugone for their now-defunct partnership, D.R. Pro. And, R.J. Dugone, Donna’s brother, of Nameless Road Productions collaborated with the two to produce the original soundtrack. The show is a montage of monologues portraying the lives of six fictional women, all played by Cumberbatch,  The characters embody the universal, human experiences of grief, loss, suffering, and personal growth. Each monologue is accompanied by original music and Jennifer’s vocal performances..

R3 debuted in 2000 to enthusiastic reviews, and Cumberbatch intends  to update it and restage it in the near future.

n 2012 Cumberbatch also produced JR Cumberbatch’s staging of Emily Mann’s Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters First 100 Years.. Jennifer played Sadie Delany, alongside the incomparable Carla Nickerson as Bessie Delany. The incredible Dr. Jamee Kennedy, founder of Attic Film Festival directed the production.

Jennifer's latest production featured live dramatic performances and film for "If These Walls Could Talk," an interactive exhibit featuring the art of Ginger Geyer at Austin's antebellum mansion, the Neill-Cochran House Museum. Cumberbatch researched, wrote scripts, directed, and performed curated programming that engaged more than four thousand people, both virtually and in person.  Cumberbatch showed the rich contributions of Black enslaved people to the history and founding of Austin, Texas, and the historic intersection between Black and White life in the city.

The “If These Walls Could Talk Finale, entitled  “The Ghost of Robert E. Lee,” was based on the myth that the Black residences of Wheatville saw the ghost of Robert E. Lee at night on the porch of the Neill-Cochran House.

Cumberbatch used Geyer‘s porcelain sculptures, “The Mercy Seat,” and ‘Make America Sing” as a springboard for her original rap, “The Ghost of Robert E. Lee”, with customized beats by her dear nephew, Gabriel Rousseau, and her original song “Make America Sing.” She also debuted the finale film, The House that Slaves Built.  J. R. Cumberbatch Productions produced the film in collaboration with mother and son duo, Gabriel and Teri Auffant of Auffant Films. The film is Cumberbatch’s tribute to the nameless, faceless Black enslaved artisans who built the Neill-Cochran House. And, the film acknowledged the lives and the contributions of the Black enslaved people who were sold to finance the construction of the house.

Enduring artifacts of the project are two films. One, If These Walls Could Talk: Ruby Virginia and Chlora at The Neill-Cochran House Museum, is an entertaining film with two fictional little girls, who oriented visitors to Geyer’s art embedded in the history of the Neill-Cochran Museum. Funmi Ogunro, award-winning, former PBS documentarist, filmed the orientation film.

The collaborative project “If These Walls Could Talk” received the national 2020 Excellence in History Award from the American Association of State and Local History.
